Isobel Hewitt is an affluent pensioner with a young lover. Duncan Goff is a GP in the village of Malham Bridge who is rumoured to be having an affair. When the corpses of Isobel and Duncan are discovered by the river alongside one another, Barnaby and Troy embark on an investigation which uncovers a deep vein of resentment running through the village.
