Father James Behan was the Roman Catholic parish priest of Midsomer Malham and chaplain and confessor to the nuns of Midsomer Priory. A somewhat pompous Irishman, Behan did not get along particularly well with the nuns, suspecting they viewed him as little more than a servant, and frequently clashed with the Prioress Mother Julian over the Priory's refusal to modernise.
He was close friends with Lauren Hendred, one of his parishioners, though her husband Matthew and her son Duncan apparently regarded him with contempt.
Father Behan was ultimately murdered by the killer of Mother Thomas Aquinas, who strangled the priest in his own presbytery.
